M25 traffic gridlock as four-car crash closes lane sparking rush-hour motorway delays

A collision on the M25 this morning involving four vehicles caused delays of up to half an hour. The incident occurred between Junction 27 and 28 in Essex just before 6.49am.
As of 7am, one lane moving anti-clockwise remains closed while emergency services respond.
Traffic camera images posted by National Highways a short while ago show the four cars bunched together on the inside lane of the dual carriageway.
They also show a build-up of slow moving traffic past the scene.
National Highways East said shortly before 7am that a Metropolitan Police roads and transport unit was on scene, and that lane one of four had been temporarily closed.
At the time, it advised motorists to expect delays between 20 and 30 minutes and to “allow extra time”.
It then added a short while later it said the collision had been moved to the hard shoulder, but that the lane remained closed past the scene “to provide a safe working area for emergency services”.
Junction 27 is the intersection with the M11 near Epping, while Junction 28 is the intersection with the A12 near Brentwood.
