Girl dies suddenly at boarding school leaving pupils in shock

A teenage girl has died after passing away in her sleep at a boarding school in Shropshire. 

The year 13 pupil, believed to be 17 or 18 years old, died overnight at Oswestry School on March 18, leaving her classmates and teachers devastated. The girl has not been named. 

The Sun reports staff and students are receiving support following the tragedy at the school, in Upper Brook Street, where a mourning period has been described as “incredibly difficult and painful time”.

A spokesperson for the independent school, which was founded in 1407 and is is one of the oldest in the country, said: “It is with immense sadness that we confirm the tragic news that a year 13 pupil from Oswestry School passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Saturday, March 18

“This is an incredibly difficult time for the whole school and our thoughts and prayers are especially with her family. Our priority is supporting our pupils and staff, and her family.

“We respectfully ask for privacy and compassion for the family and the school community during this painful time.”
