Iraqi Kurds celebrated their Nowruz New Year festival in Akre, in the country’s northern autonomous Kurdistan region. 

“Nowruz is a national symbol, a folk heritage and a festival”, says Fatima, dressed in a traditional green Kurdish dress. 

Nowruz means ‘new day’ and marks the first day of Spring. The festival is celebrated by some 300 million people around the world.
