Ukraine’s mobilisation tests its social fabric
Issued on: Modified:
At the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, Ukraine declared a full mobilisation. This means that while not everyone is drafted, men of military age are not allowed to leave the country, and could be called up at any time. Days after Russia attacked, queues formed at military commissariats, and many who were eager to sign up were even turned away. But not everyone wants to fight. As the war drags on and the casualties mount, many fear the draft and look for ways to avoid it.
