The BBC’s business editor has failed to apologise after the corporation published an article claiming Nigel Farage’s Coutts accounts were closed because he could not meet the wealth limit.

The corporation published an article with the headline: “Nigel Farage bank account shut for falling below wealth limit”, earlier this month.

The text of the story disclosed the corporation was “told” about the claims by a source close to decision-makers, who said it was a “commercial” decision.

The article was corrected after Mr Farage obtained records from the bank – which is owned by NatWest – disclosing Coutts’ reasoning.

He has since called for an apology, but business editor Simon Jack has failed to provide one since its original publication on Tuesday, July 4.
