Here, we’re nonetheless having fun with mellow climate, however you possibly can inform that autumn is ready on the doorstep. Slowly leaves are turning gold and escaping their branches. There is a slight chill in the air at night time. And we now have obtained our annual invitation to have fun the marriage anniversary of neighbors Delphine and Paul.

It’s been a number of years since they married, one thing that shocked all of us who know and love Paul. He is variety, clever and humorous however he does have questionable vogue style – classic (not the type which can be cool) fits are his factor, and really massive colourful ties. He had a behavior of falling in and out of affection with folks he noticed on the telly however by no means met for actual. He as soon as had a pet hen referred to as Cheri which slept on his pillow and went in all places with him. And he can, and does, discuss for hours on finish about mushrooms – do you know that genetically they’re nearer to people than to crops? And that there have been large mushrooms on Earth 350 million years in the past? He is obsessive about mushrooms – selecting and consuming them, and has a fondness for selfmade crème de menthe which makes his tongue go inexperienced. In his late 50’s, he had by no means fairly made it to the wedding stage till he met Delphine. She has the sweetest nature and like her beloved, can also be obsessive about mushrooms.

Each 12 months, in honor of their wedding ceremony day, they maintain a celebration occasion at which mushrooms of every kind take a starring position – morels in coq au vin, cep mushroom fricassee, nut flavored fungi with truffles and pasta. It’s not remotely nouveau delicacies, it is the form of consolation meals that warms the cockles of your coronary heart and makes your soul soar. It is, as Paul and Delphine say, the form of cooking that’s love made seen, and to me it is the beginning, and style, of autumn correct.

In my final newsletter I instructed you about my quest to affix the Guild of Chantilly Cream Makers. Well, final week I used to be on a barge cruise with CroisiEurope (croisieurope.co.uk – they run river and canal cruises throughout France, and they’re fabulous) by the Oise Valley which is in the Oise division, Picardy. And I’ve to let you know, I’ve fallen head over heels for this beautiful space, dwelling to the Chateau of Chantilly, and Auvers-sur-Oise, the place Van Gogh spent his last months, portray in a frenzy. I can not wait to share the story with you in an upcoming subject of The Good Life France Magazine (which is completely free to learn, subscribe and share). But in the meantime, I’m delighted to say, that whereas there I had a lesson from a Knight of the Brotherhood of Cream Whippers, The brotherhood of whipping knights of whipped cream. I realized how to make Chantilly cream, and my dream has come true. I’m now a Squire of the Brotherhood. I’m not kidding. Knighthood beckons…!
