Darts participant Scott Williams joked about England successful ‘two World Wars and one World Cup’ after beating his German opponent within the third spherical of the World Darts Championship.

Williams, 33, thanked the gang after successful an exhilarating deciding set towards Martin Schindler at Alexandra Palace for a 4-3 victory and a spot within the fourth spherical.

Speaking to Sky Sports after his win, Williams stated: “What a game! I’m so happy to get to the other side as the winner as well. Martin bought the fight and I was not expecting to go all the way to sudden death as well. I’m knackered, I’m absolutely knackered.

“I’ve never had the crowd on my side like that. I know we won two World Wars and one World Cup. The German fans here were huge as well.”

Sky Sports presenters apologised for the usage of “offensive language” after the interview.

From Boston in Lincolnshire, Williams was knocked out within the second spherical of the World Championships when he first performed within the event in 2023.
