Turkish authorities have detained scores of suspects over alleged hyperlinks with Islamic State group jihadists in a nationwide sweep forward of New Year celebrations, the inside minister mentioned on Saturday.

Posting on X, previously Twitter, Ali Yerlikaya mentioned that 189 suspects had been detained as a part of simultaneous operations dubbed “HEROES-38” carried out in 37 cities together with Istanbul.
Twenty-seven suspects have been detained within the capital Ankara alone and 22 in Istanbul, he mentioned.
Turkey has in latest months intensified operations towards IS jihadists who’ve claimed a variety of lethal assaults on Turkish soil together with the January 1, 2017 assault on a nightclub in Istanbul which killed 39 folks.
On Friday, Turkish safety forces detained 32 IS suspects together with three senior members who have been planning assaults on church buildings and synagogues in addition to the Iraqi embassy.
