Mumbles seaside in Wales cordoned off by police as ‘bomb squad’ rush to the scene | UK | News | EUROtoday

The bomb squad has rushed to a seaside close to a seaside village in Wales after an “explosive device” was discovered inside a cave. Emergency companies rushed to the scene in Mumbles shortly earlier than 2pm on Monday afternoon.

There is a police presence on the seaside whereas officers look forward to a specialist unit to reach to provoke a managed explosion.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police stated: “We were called just before 1.50pm this afternoon with a report of an explosive device in a cave near the coastal path at Mumbles.

“Officers are in attendance and have established a cordon following Joint Service Explosive Ordnance Disposal (JSEOD) recommendation. The lighthouse and its surrounding space have been cleared. A JSEOD workforce is to attend to hold out a managed explosion of the system.”

An eyewitness told Wales Online that people were being turned away from the beach

He told the publication: “I used to be strolling in direction of Mumbles head after I seen everybody strolling again to Mumbles pier and seen police strolling in direction of me and I requested different individuals what was occurring and so they stated that there was one thing suspicious on Mumbles head.”
