Penny Mordaunt revealed she is promoting her iconic Coronation costume as a result of it has turn into so recognisable she feels she can’t put on it once more. The Commons Leader plans to promote the robe to fund tasks in her Portsmouth North Constituency.

Ms Mordaunt stole the present on the King’s Coronation final May together with her sword-wielding position.

The 50-year-old instructed The Sunday Times’s Style journal: “I can never wear it again – unless I’m going to a fancy dress party as myself!

“It struck me … it’s such an iconic dress that it ought to go on and do some other good things.”

The £1,200 teal caped costume was made by Safiyaa, whereas she wore a headpiece from Jane Taylor.

Both had been embroidered with a gold leaf motif by Hand & Lock.

Ms Mordaunt was the primary lady to have carried out the ceremonial sword position at a coronation.

She stated: “My predecessor at the last coronation would have worn the court dress of the privy council, which is beautiful but obviously designed for a man.

“And I was very conscious that although we were going to have the full coronation robes and all the amazing pageantry, it was also a modern coronation for a modern King.

“So I wanted to wear something in which I could stand next to my female cabinet colleagues and not look out of place – while also standing next to the large number of clergy, the pursuivants of arms, all the military uniforms – and fit in.”

Ms Mordaunt was answerable for bearing The Sword of State and presenting The Jewelled Sword of Offering to Charles.

She was the shock star of the royal show of pomp and pageantry and was in comparison with Pippa Middleton at her sister Kate’s royal marriage ceremony.
