Transgender Day of Visibility was started 15 years ago by Rachel Crandall-Crocker, a psychotherapist and the executive director of the nonprofit advocacy group Transgender Michigan.

The Williams Institute, a research center at UCLA’s law school, released a study in 2022 that found more than 1.6 million people in the US identify at transgender.
