A “serious incident” on a significant stretch of UK motorway has sparked journey chaos this afternoon. Emergency providers together with an air ambulance has rushed to the scene on the A1(M) in Hertfordshire at round noon on Wednesday, April 3.

An replace on the National Highways web site reads: “The A1(M) southbound in Hertfordshire is closed between J9 Letchworth Gate Interchange (Letchworth, Hitchin A505) and J8 Corey Mill Interchange (Stevenage A602).

“This is because of a severe incident. The scene is being managed by Hertfordshire Police with models from Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue, East of England Ambulance Service and a helicopter from Essex & Hertfordshire Air Ambulance.”

It is unknown whether or not there have been any casualties on account of this incident.
