Swedish local weather activist Greta Thunberg was arrested throughout a motorway blockade within the Netherlands. The objective of the protest was to exhibit in opposition to the federal government's fossil gasoline subsidies.

Police took Thunberg and different protesters into custody after they did not adjust to officers' requests to interrupt up the blockade. They have been initially held in a big safety drive bus.

Since 2022, the local weather activists from Extinction Rebellion have repeatedly held blockades on the A12 to protest in opposition to subsidies for fossil fuels. With Saturday's protest, the group says it needs to place strain on the Dutch authorities forward of one other deliberate debate on the difficulty in June.

In July 2022, the Dutch parliament requested the federal government to current a plan to section out fossil gasoline subsidies, estimated at between 39.7 and 46.4 billion euros. The plan has not but been introduced.
