A five-year-old lady has died after being hit by a lorry exterior a faculty in Hull.

The lady was driving a motorcycle on Hopewell Road when a HGV lorry struck her at about 3.40pm, Humberside Police mentioned.

Paramedics handled her on the scene however she was pronounced lifeless shortly after.

Oakfield School was closed as a mark of respect on Friday, as flowers and teddy bears have been left on the scene of the incident.

In an announcement, the college mentioned: “Oakfield School is closed to staff and pupils on Friday April 12 2024 owing to a serious incident involving a member of public outside of the school gates on Thursday. Oakfield School will reopen to staff and pupils on Monday.”

In an announcement, Humberside Police mentioned: “Officers are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision in Hull yesterday afternoon (Thursday 11 April).

“We were called to attend Hopewell Road following reports that a HGV lorry and a child riding a bike were involved in a collision at approximately 3.40pm.

“Emergencies services were deployed but despite their efforts, the cyclist, a 5-year-old girl, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

“Her family are currently being supported by officers at this extremely sad and difficult time.

“We’d like to thank members of the public who came to the aid of those involved whilst emergency services arrived and for the support the wider local community has shown so far.”

Anyone who was within the space across the time of the collision, or anybody who has CCTV or dashcam footage which will help police enquires is requested to contact police on the non-emergency quantity 101, quoting log 345 of 11 April.
