Police say they’re “reviewing” a letter regarding claims in opposition to Conservative MP Mark Menzies, who’s accused of misusing social gathering marketing campaign funds.

Labour Party chairwoman Anneliese Dodds has written to Lancashire Police calling on the pressure to look into allegations that Mr Menzies used political donations to cowl medical bills and repay “bad people” who had locked him in a flat and demanded hundreds of kilos for his launch.

The Times printed claims that he known as his former marketing campaign supervisor at 3.15am someday in December, saying he wanted £5,000 as a matter of “life and death”.

The sum, which rose to £6,500, was ultimately paid by his workplace supervisor from her private checking account and was later reimbursed from funds raised from donors, it was alleged.

Mr Menzies, MP for Fylde in Lancashire, misplaced the Conservative whip and was suspended as one among Rishi Sunak’s commerce envoys after the claims have been made.

The Tory social gathering has stated it’s wanting into the allegations, which he disputes.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson stated on Friday night: “We can confirm that we have now received a letter detailing concerns around this matter and we are in the process of reviewing the available information in more detail.”
