The prefect of Val-de-Marne will refer the matter to the general public prosecutor of Créteil after the mayor of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges made a Nazi salute on Saturday April 20 within the municipal council, the prefecture introduced on Sunday. “Such a gesture, which was the subject of numerous testimonies addressed to the representative of the State, is completely unacceptable”estimated the prefecture in a press launch.
The municipal council of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges met on Saturday to vote on the annual finances of this commune of 35,000 inhabitants, positioned about fifteen kilometers south of Paris, in Val-de-Marne.
Lacking a majority, Philippe Gaudin, numerous right-wing mayor since 2020, did not have his finances adopted on April 15, the deadline set by legislation, attributable to a boycott by many elected officers. He was then given a deadline till Saturday.
