Weather warnings for thunder, lightning and sudden floods are in place as Britain is hit by storms. The Met Office is warning of extreme climate throughout southern England and Wales, with thunderstorms in a single day sparking journey chaos this morning.

The yellow warnings overlaying elements of Cornwall, Bath, Portsmouth, Swansea and Cardiff have been in place since 8pm final evening and can stay in place till 8am this morning. Meanwhile the second warning, overlaying London, Oxford, Gloucester and Chelmsford, will final till 10am.

London, elements of the south-east, and areas within the south-west have all been hit with rail delays, after the inclement climate struck through the small hours of final evening. The M25 close to Heathrow, the M11, the M1 coming into London and the M26 heading westward from Kent into London has heavy site visitors, not shifting in locations.

Meanwhile there’s a half closure on London’s District Line and Overground service. There are additionally minor delays on the Northern Line.
