The Protestant Federation calls on the State “to reconnect with a spirit of listening and a more neutral positioning”

The president of the Protestant Federation of France (FPF), Christian Krieger, who visited New Caledonia in November 2023, “proposed the services to the French authorities” of his federation to take part “to any operation aimed at easing tensions, resuming dialogue between separatists and loyalists, and working in concert with local Churches to heal wounded memories”in response to a press launch.

The FPF estimates that New Caledonia has 98% Christians, together with a 3rd Protestants. The Protestant Church there had, in 1979, declared itself in favor of independence.

Stressing that the method of the Matignon and Nouméa agreements (in 1998) “is broken today”the FPF deplores “the devastating riots” in New Caledonia which, in response to her, “certify that Kanak youth have not found the social promise of the Republic, nor those of the local authorities”.
