Former Labour chief Jeremy Corbyn has introduced he’ll stand as an unbiased candidate in Islington North within the normal election.

Mr Corbyn, who has held the seat for greater than 40 years, was suspended from the Labour get together in 2020 following a row over antisemitism.

In an interview along with his native Islington Tribune newspaper, he mentioned he could be “a voice for equality, democracy and peace”.

He added: “I am here to represent the people of Islington North on exactly the same principles that I’ve stood by my whole life: social justice, human rights and peace”.

Labour is but to announce its candidate for the seat, which shall be contested within the normal election on 4 July, introduced by Rishi Sunak earlier this week.

At the final normal election in 2019, Mr Corbyn gained the seat for Labour with a share of the vote of greater than 64 per cent. The Lib Dems, who’ve named Vikas Aggarwal as their candidate for the seat, got here second.

Mr Corbyn was suspended by Labour after he refused to completely settle for the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s findings that the get together broke equality regulation when he was in cost.

The 74-year-old, who was chief of the get together from 2015 to 2020, additionally mentioned antisemitism had been “dramatically overstated for political reasons”.
