A young person has been arrested for planning a terror assault concentrating on soccer matches on the Olympic Games in Paris, officers confirmed on Friday.

According to a report in France, an 18-year-old suspect has been held on suspicion of eager to commit an assault.

The Geoffroy-Guichard stadium, house of Ligue 1 membership Saint-Étienne, is because of host a number of matches this summer season and the assault was stated to focus on spectators and members of the police. The report added the suspect was arrested at his house and that he had already carried out a reconnaissance.

In a press launch, French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin congratulated the intelligence companies and stated the nation will “demonstrate their full mobilisation and their effectiveness in the fight against terrorism and the protection of our country.”

He added: “This is the first foiled attack against the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the 50th attack foiled by our intelligence services since 2017.”
