It’s been some time for Aaron Bruno. The frontman and face of AWOLNATION hasn’t actually seen the sunshine of day for a while, and there are just a few causes for it.

First of all, when the band launched their final document, Angel Miners & the Lightning Ridersin 2020, the world shut down quickly thereafter. Since then, he is been making an attempt to start out a household, and has since had twin boys. On high of that, he launched an album of canopy songs – “just for fun” – My Echo, My Shadow, My Covers, and Me in 2022.

But with virtually 4 million month-to-month listeners on Spotify, AWOLNATION are removed from irrelevant. And at this time Bruno has proved that with the announcement of his upcoming album, The Phantom Five.

Speaking completely to Express.co.uk from inside his dwelling sauna, a few weeks forward of the announcement, Bruno appeared at peace. Even an interview selling a brand new album felt like a break for him with two almost-newborn twin boys in his dwelling. But, wanting ahead, he has much more work to do.

However thrilling this new album is, it was as soon as a sombre thought, as Bruno wished it to be his remaining album – ever. “When I was writing a lot of this record [I did it] knowing that I was going to become a father,” Bruno defined. “And with the world upside down… I was also thinking: this may be the last AWOL record. And so I kind of went into the writing as if to say farewell to the listener.”

Naturally, although, as soon as the tracks have been written and recorded he realised “of course, it’s probably not going to be the last record”. Despite that: “I liked the idea and the romanticism and drama,” he laughed. “Of considering it being the last record.”

Still, with the concept of this being his remaining AWOLNATION album throughout its infancy, was Bruno excited to be… freed from all of it? “Not so much excited,” he sighed. “As much as, maybe… relief? Relief because the pressure… the pressure of all of it is real.”

To alleviate among the calls for all the time surrounding him, Bruno went on to search out some solace in a brand new, tongue-in-cheek undertaking. The Barbarians of California, a heavy metallic outfit comprised of him and a few of his band. After letting off some steam there, he received again to crafting The Phantom Five.

He went stay with it lately with the discharge of Panoramic View – AWOLNATION’s first new, unique observe in years.

Considering the time between songs, it did really feel just a little bit like, Bruno admitted, the band have been making some kind of “comeback”. “I didn’t intend for it to feel that way,” he confessed, earlier than explaining how he felt his followers had welcomed the brand new single with open arms.”

Bruno continued: “So, each the timing and simply the reception of this primary single, and the little teasers we have executed of the subsequent tune simply,” Bruno trailed off, before animating again. “I really feel extra related to my fan base and extra engaged than I’ve [before].

“Maybe it’s part of where I’m at in my life. And, I’m not sure, but yes, it does feel a bit like a comeback. It just feels, rather than say a comeback, I would say it feels more like a reunion, of sorts. With our listeners.”

Fans within the UK will little question be questioning when a actual reunion can be going down – a stay tour with actual reveals in native cities. Unfortunately, there is no excellent news there.

“We would love to go,” Bruno mentioned. “I would love, I would love to see [British fans]. And I read on our message boards. It’s like… it’s so aggressive how people get [when] we haven’t been there in a while. But hey, it got tricky to get over there for obvious reasons.

“This kind of comeback expertise – or reunion – will certainly assist that develop into extra of a actuality … It undoubtedly will not be this 12 months, as a result of now we have [the album] deliberate. But I’d be stunned if we did not do one thing subsequent 12 months.”
