Green Party chief Carla Denyer appeared to tie herself in knots on LBC earlier as we speak, throughout an interview with Lewis Goodall.

The environmentalist politician was debating Britain’s nuclear arsenal. The celebration is in opposition to Britain having nuclear weapons, a transfer that distinguishes them from the opposite main events.

Asked to justify the coverage and the declare that not having the weapons would make Britain much less of a goal no more, she mentioned: “The vast majority of Nato countries don’t have nuclear weapons. So, this would a case of the UK joining those.”

Mr Goodall retorted: “Poland doesn’t have nuclear weapons, it’s still a target.

“We would nonetheless stay a goal of Russia or whoever if we have now nuclear weapons or not – we’ll simply be extra uncovered.”

Audibly exhaling, the Green leader appeared stumped by the former BBC journalist’s reply. Pivoting, she said: “Going again to first rules, like what are the circumstances that urgent the purple button would clear up? I can not consider any.”

Mr Goodall replied, simply: “Well, it is a deterrent.”

The 38-year-old leader came back: “I do not suppose the argument for a deterrent could be very efficient.”

“Maybe you are proper”, 34-year-old Goodall said, “however it’s a danger, is not it? It’s a danger – you would not need to take a danger proper now at such a dangerous second.

“Russia is a revanchist power… we are part of Nato, surely the last thing we should be doing is taking a risk with our national security right now?”

Seeming to disregard Mr Goodall, the Green chief tried to attract an analogy to knife crime: “The argument for having nuclear weapons only as a deterrent reminds me strongly of the argument that you tragically hear young people giving sometimes for why they carry a knife.

“They say they’re doing it to guard themselves and so they actually consider that. But the very fact is that those that carry knives usually tend to be stabbed, generally by their very own knife.”

Seemingly bemused, Mr Goodall said: “We’re not going to nuke ourselves are we?”

Stumbling, the Green leader replied: “No, however it makes us a goal as I say.”
