A former worker is suing Elon Musk’s Neuralink, claiming that she was scratched by a monkey contaminated with Herpes B virus, and that she was fired after she instructed her superiors that she was pregnant.

Lindsay Short, who started working with Musk’s brainchip firm in August 2022, accused the agency of failing to supply correct protecting gear to staff which left her uncovered to the contaminated monkey that scratched her.

The lawsuit, filed in California state courtroom, accuses Neuralink of making a hostile office, claims that superiors had unrealistic deadlines and that workers have been usually shamed for not assembly their assigned targets.

Short particulars two incidents by which contaminated monkeys scratched her whereas she was working,in response to the lawsuit.

The second incident concerned Short being scratched throughout the face by a monkey, once more carrying the Herpes B virus.

The former worker additionally claims within the lawsuit that her superiors threatened “severe repercussions” if she was injured once more on the job.

In June 2023, Short went to Neuralink’s human sources division to tell them that she was pregnant and that she wished to “determine whether reasonable accommodations could be made for her.”

She says in the lawsuit that she went directly to the HR department, rather than to her superiors, because her bosses “would usually point out how they didn’t like kids” and felt that having kids solely “got in the way” of their profession targets.

Short was reportedly fired the day after she went to human sources.

“The razor thin, one day difference between” Short’s disclosure that she was pregnant “and her wrongful termination strongly suggests retaliation,” the lawsuit says.

Short is suing Neuralink for wrongful termination, retaliation, and gender discrimination, amongst different allegations.

The Independent has contacted Neuralink for remark.
