An invasive “mystery” snail has been found in a Georgia lake, the state’s Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) has mentioned.

Officials mentioned a member of the genus Cipangopaludina, Chinese/Japanese Mystery Snails, was seen in a number of waterbodies inside Georgia together with Lake Lanier.

Invasive aquatic species could cause vital ecological and financial impacts, from damaging vessels and boating gear, to disrupting the pure ecosystem by displacing and out-competing native species, WRD mentioned.
