A fireplace has damaged out within the spire of Rouen Cathedral in Normandy, northern France. The Bfmtv broadcaster reported, broadcasting pictures of a protracted column of smoke popping out of the cathedral's spire. The causes of the fireplace, which remains to be ongoing, haven’t but been disclosed. The mayor of the town, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, wrote on 'X' that “all public resources are being mobilized” and that the causes of the fireplace “in progress in the spire of Rouen Cathedral” are “unknown at this time.”

At the time of the fireplace, renovation work was underway on the cathedral's spire, Bfmtv explains. The cathedral was evacuated for security causes and emergency companies are on website, the Normandy prefecture defined on 'X'. A safety perimeter has been created across the cathedral. “It is a complex site because of the height with very significant scaffolding structures,” Richard Duplat, chief architect of historic monuments, informed Tendance Ouest.
