Drivers are nonetheless paying an excessive amount of for gas, the UK’s competitors watchdog has warned, with costs costing motorists £1.6bn final yr alone.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) mentioned that weakened competitors within the gas sector is impacting drivers’ wallets.

It discovered that supermarkets’ revenue margins – which is the distinction between the value they purchase gas at and what they cost motorists – had doubled since 2019.
