More anti-immigration protests are deliberate for Sunday, with police braced for recent violence after surprising scenes yesterday in cities and cities throughout the UK which resulted in a minimum of 90 arrests, a number of cops being injured, and widespread looting.

Demonstrations are scheduled in Bolton, Lancaster, Middlesbrough, Weymouth and Rotherham.

Yesterday noticed 20 arrests by Humberside Police, 10 in Stoke, 20 in Lancashire and 14 in Bristol. Merseyside Police arrested 23 individuals, with riot officers deployed in County Road, the place marauding youths set fireplace to bins and blocked the road within the early hours.

Chief Constable BJ Harrington, who speaks on public order for the National Police Chiefs’ Council, mentioned: “We know people will try and do this again and policing has been and will continue to be ready. There are 130 extra units in place across the country, meaning almost 4,000 extra public order-trained officers to deploy.

“So in case you’re planning to trigger hassle and dysfunction our message may be very easy – we’ll be watching you.”

Speaking yesterday, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper mentioned: “I need everybody to be clear. Anyone who will get concerned in legal dysfunction, violent thuggery on our streets, must pay the value.”

Tiffany Lynch from the Police Federation of England and Wales said while in the past civil unrest was “pocketed” in particular areas of the country, “we’re now seeing it flooding throughout main cities and cities”.
