Yesterday, Mexican bullfighter César Pacheco suffered a critical neck damage when he went in to kill the fifth bull of the afternoon from the Los Chospes bull farm, within the Calasparra bullring in Murcia.

The medical report signifies that he has “a goring in the left cervical region, with significant bleeding compressed by a subordinate. The subordinate is replaced by applying strong pressure with compresses, achieving hemostasis. Two high-flow lines are channeled and perfusion of fluids and plasma expanders is started, administering fentanyl and nolotil. Tazocel is administered; given the patient's stability, during observation in the infirmary, and given the need for surgery with orotracheal intubation due to possible cervical vascular injury not detected by the compression, it is decided to transfer him by ambulance to the Northwest Regional Hospital.”

Already on the hospital, the process was carried out a “tracheal intubation, causing significant bleeding, identifying arterial bleeding from the vascular pedicle of the left parotid, an artery coming from the external carotid. Bleeding is performed with stitches and ligature, the wound is explored identifying a posterior trajectory towards the cervical region that dissects the jugular vein and the internal carotid. Hemostasis is performed, and suturing is done in layers, leaving a cervical suction drain. Skin suture with silk.”

Dr. Ricardo Robles has declared to Intotoro who “arrived at the bullring's infirmary with a significant vascular injury, bleeding heavily from an artery that came from the external carotid artery.”

“We have already operated on him at the Caravaca Hospital,” the physician continues, “and everything has gone well. We have identified several trajectories, one of them towards the posterior column which has dissected the carotid and jugular veins. The muscle damage in the neck has also been significant. We are now checking, because we have also identified another goring in the armpit and we are seeing its extent. But that is less serious.”

The bullfighter is within the ICU of the well being heart and his situation is steady regardless of the intense seriousness of the goring.

César Pacheco, a local of Zacatecas, traveled to Spain final May to proceed his profession, and moved his residence to Valladolid, the place he has been staying with the matador Leandro Marcos. Before crossing the Atlantic, he had participated in 4 bullfights this season, and in eight in 2023.
