Few EU presidencies have rocked the bloc as a lot as the present one, held by Hungary. European leaders, many MEPs, and EU Commissioners, have been rattled by what Prime Minister Viktor Orban known as his peace mission in July, which included a gathering with President Zelensky of Ukraine – but in addition with Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping and Donald Trump. And in the beginning of September, a number of European governments publicly questioned whether or not the Hungarian management revered European values. Meanwhile, a row continues to brew between Brussels and Budapest over the difficulty of migrants. We take inventory of Hungary’s rotating presidency at its half-way level.
