FNewly appointed Minister of Economy, Finance and Industry, Antoine Armand gave his first interview to the JDD on Saturday, September 21. He says he’s “honored” and “proud” to be a part of the brand new authorities shaped by Michel Barnier. The Haut-Savoyard MP from the presidential group (Ensemble pour la République) subsequently replaces Bruno Le Maire at Bercy.

“I will not be the minister of tax confiscation, nor of underinvestment in our economic and ecological future,” says the 33-year-old elected official who sees himself tasked with the heavy job of discovering 20 billion euros in financial savings in 2025. “In the budgetary context, automatically excluding certain exceptional and targeted levies would not be responsible,” he says, awaiting the tax pointers that will probably be decided by the Prime Minister. Will the MP lead a coverage of rupture or continuity at Bercy? “Our economy needs stability and seriousness: what has worked, let's preserve it,” replies the brand new minister. “Does that mean that we have done everything well and that there is nothing left to do? Of course not. I deeply believe that there will be no strong French industry without a successful ecological transition,” he insists.
