A schoolboy who was stabbed to dying in Woolwich has been named as two males have been arrested on suspicion of homicide.

Daejuan Campbell, 15, died on Sunday night in an incident involving a zombie-style knife as a ban in opposition to the lethal weapons comes into power.

The 15-year-old was discovered with a deadly stab harm on Eglinton Road in south-east London at round 6.30pm amid stories of a disturbance.

The Metropolitan Police launched a homicide investigation. A 52-year-old man and an 18-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of homicide on Tuesday and each stay in police custody.

In the aftermath of the incident, the power issued a warning over zombie-style knives, with detectives believing one was used within the assault.

Just two days after the deadly stabbing, new laws making it unlawful to personal zombie-style knives and machetes got here into power in England and Wales.

Speaking outdoors Plumstead Police Station on Monday, Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry mentioned: “The fact a 15-year-old teenager who had his whole life ahead of him has been taken from his family in this way is a stark and sobering reminder of the danger of zombie-style knives. We are committed to doing everything in our power to take these weapons off the streets.”

The authorities introduced a ban on zombie knives earlier this 12 months as a part of efforts to scale back knife crime, with campaigners together with actor Idris Elba pushing for the massive blades to be outlawed.

The new laws closes a loophole to an preliminary ban on the knives first imposed in 2016, which meant the weapon could possibly be stored and bought if it didn’t have photographs depicting violence.

From Tuesday, the banned knives shall be outlined as “any bladed weapon over eight inches in length with a plain cutting edge and sharp pointed end that also has either a serrated cutting edge, more than one hole in the blade, or multiple sharp points like spikes”.

On Monday, a white forensic tent and police cordon had been put in place on the scene in Eglinton Road, whereas officers searched the realm and spoke to neighbours.

A spokesperson for Sadiq Khan mentioned: “The mayor’s thoughts are with the family and friends of the teenage boy who has been killed in Woolwich, as well as the wider community.

“This heart-breaking violence has no place in our streets. The mayor is in close contact with police leaders and there will be increased patrols in the local area.”
