«We, the G7 ministers for points regarding individuals with disabilities and inclusion, gathered in Solfagnano on 15 and 16 October 2024, underneath the presidency of Alessandra Locatelli, Italian Minister for Disabilities, to reaffirm our unwavering dedication to make sure that all folks take pleasure in equal rights for full, efficient and significant participation and inclusion in all points of social, cultural, academic, financial, civil and political life. The realization of the human rights of individuals with disabilities is our highest precedence.” With these words begins the joint statement distributed today at the end of the meeting between the twelve ministers who have met in recent days at the G7 held in Umbria.

«Our meeting – continues the document – is based on the G7 leaders’ summit held in Borgo Egnazia, Italy, from 13 to 15 June 2024, which tasked us with starting the Solfagnano mapin which we committed to further integrating the rights of persons with disabilities into all political agendas and to taking concrete actions to ensure universal access and accessibility; promote independent living, support inclusive education, decent employment and adequate working conditions; ensure the availability and adaptability of community-based services and advance the use of accessible and inclusive new technologies. We are also committed to promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities in sporting, cultural and recreational activities, as well as in emergency prevention and disaster risk management.”

The doc additionally reiterates «our shared perception within the safety, promotion, monitoring and implementation of the human rights and elementary freedoms of individuals with disabilities, based mostly on current worldwide authorized requirements, specifically the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. It is also important to recognize the diversity of people with disabilities and the multiple or aggravated forms of discrimination they may face, as we address the multiple barriers to inclusion of people with disabilities.”

Ministers are aware of the crucial importance of integrating the issue of inclusion and rights of persons with disabilities into international agendas, including initiatives related to the G7, at bilateral and multilateral levels, in close cooperation with international organizations, with a universal and regionally, to promote social change and guarantee equal rights for people with disabilities. «We are committed – continues the document – to promoting the mobilization of the entire society through an inclusive and collaborative approach, appropriate to national contexts, which actively involves people with disabilities, Organizations of People with Disabilities (OPD), public institutions, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), the private sector, communities and citizens.”
