1. PALAIS DES BAUX-ARTS DE LILLE

One of the biggest artwork museums in France, this Baroque constructing homes works from the Middle Ages onwards by artists akin to Bruyn, Donatello, van Dyck, Rubens, Manet and Picasso.

2. CHARLES DE GAULLE BIRTH HOUSE

France’s nice mid-century chief was born on rue Princesse in Lille in 1890. The home is now a museum, with interval decor and furnishings, in addition to de Gaulle household memorabilia.

3. THE POOL

Roubaix’s former municipal baths are an excellent instance of Art Deco, with intricate mosaic tiles. They’re house to exhibitions of high quality and utilized arts, all underneath the title La Piscine – Musée d’artwork et d’industrie André Diligent.

4. FLANDERS MUSEUM

If you need to uncover what makes the Flemish soul tick, the Musée de Flandre in Cassel will provide you with a significant perception into their tradition. There’s a wealthy assortment of 6,000 Flemish artworks right here courting from the fifteenth century.

5. LAM

Lille Métropole Musée d’artwork moderne, d’artwork contemporain et d’artwork brut is an artwork museum in Villeneuve d’Ascq which homes over 7,000 artworks by the likes of Picasso, Modigliani, Klee and Miró. Adjacent is a sculpture park.

6. MUSEUM OF THE BATTLE OF FROMELLES

Inaugurated in 2014, this museum, designed by architect David Serero, honors the 250 or so British and Australian troopers who have been buried in a mass grave close to Fromelles.

7. HISTORICAL MINING CENTER

For three centuries coal performed a significant function on this area of France. This museum in Lewarde, constructed round an outdated colliery, goals “to conserve and promote the Nord-Pas de Calais mining culture”.

8. HENRI MATISSE MUSEUM

Matisse himself first launched a museum in 1952 in Le Cateau-Cambrésis, the place he was born. In the Eighties it relocated to the close by Palais Fénelon. It reopens earlier than the top of 2024 after intensive renovation.

9. MUSVERRE

This museum on the positioning of a Roman settlement known as Bagacum Nerviorum shows the stays of the Roman discussion board and lots of unearthed objects there to supply a glimpse into life 2,000 years in the past.

11. FRAC GRAND LARGE

Located in Dunkirk’s former shipyards, this huge museum is devoted to modern artwork. Current exhibitions embrace works by Portuguese painter José Loureiro. Open Wednesdays to Sundays, 2pm to 6pm.

12. MARITIME & PORT MUSEUM

Housed in a former tobacco warehouse from the nineteenth century, this museum is devoted to maritime tradition. The highlights are the adjoining boats that you would be able to board and discover.
