“Le Point” has chosen to present a voice to American voters within the run-up to the presidential election which can happen on November 5. The vote of independents – neither Democrats nor Republicans – may decide the winner between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. Met in Montana, a state anchored to the proper within the north of the nation, Lara Brooks selected her camp.

“Ie come from a small rural town in Montana called Corvallis, population 1,400. I consider myself independent because I don’t like being put in a box. In the past, I have voted for both Democrats and Republicans. This year, I have made my choice: it will be Kamala Harris. At first, I was a little afraid that her campaign wouldn’t take off because she had been a poor candidate during the 2020 primaries. When Biden withdrew, I said to myself: “I don’t think she will have the shoulders to do it.” But I used to be pleasantly stunned. I feel she’s going to win, however it is going to be shut. There will certainly be chaos!

Donald Trump terrifies me, as do the individuals who assist him. We can not enable him to return to energy. I’d be keen to vote for every other Republican so long as they don’t seem to be MAGA [Make America Great Again, NDLR]. Extremes scare me.

The Democratic Party seems more reasonable and normal to me today. If Republicans return to what they were before Trump, I might vote for them. It all depends on personality and values. Politics are secondary to me. For example, I respect someone like Liz Cheney, the former Republican congresswoman from Wyoming and daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney who is campaigning against Donald Trump. She even supported Kamala Harris. If she ran for the White House, I would vote for her in a heartbeat.

ALSO READ “Arab American, I will not vote for Harris or Trump” All my life I have believed that the two parties could come to an agreement to resolve their differences. But this is no longer the case today. For me, Donald Trump is a threat to democracy. He embodies authoritarianism, dictatorship… There are too many Christian fanatics surrounding him. As far as I am concerned, I want religion and politics to remain strictly separate. And I’m not even talking about the conspiracy theories and delusional positions of Trump, who has talked about suspending the Constitution. It’s as if he thought he was Hitler, Viktor Orban or Vladimir Putin… Sometimes I think I’m dreaming! How did we get there? I hope the Americans won’t want it.

“Not even a good businessman”

There are many reasons why Donald Trump is popular. In 2016, he played the anti-Obama. In American history, periods of progress have always been followed by backlash. It is clear that he smoked out his supporters. They believe him blindly but, in my opinion, do not realize the ramifications of his policies. He is an entertainment personality, but not a leader at all. It’s crazy! He’s not even a good businessman! I consider him a modern version of PT Barnum, the 19th century politiciane century known for his pranks and for founding the circus company that bore his name. He was a showman above all. Trump is the same and has a talent for it.

ALSO READ American presidential election: “For the first time, I gave money to a candidate” In Montana, a really Republican state, the result of the presidential election is in little doubt: he’ll win towards Kamala Harris. More fascinating is the Senate election between Democrat Jon Tester and Trumpist Republican Tim Sheehy. If Tester, one of many final Democrats to signify Republican territory within the Upper House, is defeated, the proper may regain management of the Senate. Honestly, I’m frightened about him as a result of Montana has develop into extra Trumpist over time. Donald Trump supporters will vote for Sheehy with no second thought, although he’s a millionaire who will not be even from our state, in contrast to Jon Tester, who’s a farmer who has been right here for a number of generations.

I hope the latter can win within the snatch. Montana voters have confirmed up to now that they will vote for reasonable Democrats. What worries me is that we’ve got develop into extra polarized lately, like the remainder of the nation. In the speeches, we entered right into a logic of “us against them”. It wasn’t this excessive twenty years in the past. »
