Johnny Depp has lastly returned to the director’s chair 25 years in the past after his debut with 1997’s The Brave.
His new film Modì: Three Days on the Wing of Madness is a biographical drama about three days within the lifetime of the Bohemian Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani.
The movie’s official synopsis reads: “A 72-hour whirlwind through the streets of WWI Paris, Italian bohemian artist Modigliani attempts to out manoeuvre bombs, policemen, girlfriends and critics in an increasingly desperate search of a home for his art.”
Riccardo Scamarcio stars as Modì alongside Al Pacino (who additionally produces the movie) as Maurice Gangnat and Stephen Graham as Léopold Zborowski.
The latter co-starred reverse Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow as Scrum in Pirates of the Caribbean 4 and 5 and is a detailed buddy and supporter.
Following the movie’s screening on the Rome Film Festival final week, Depp spoke about returning to directing and figuring out with Modi.
Depp instructed The Hollywood Reporter: “My upbringing was not the same as Modigliani’s, but you do understand the levels that you have to climb, up a ladder or up a wall to get to a point where you earn your stripes. I do understand him in the sense that he stuck to his guns with his particular style, which was far too brute for those at the time.”
