Islamic costume code: Strict costume codes in Iran: “clinic” deliberate for ladies | EUROtoday

Plans are being pushed ahead in Iran for a “rehab clinic” for ladies who don’t adhere to strict costume codes. The initiative comes from an authority that controls compliance with Islamic virtues in society. The authority introduced that the brand new facility was supposed to “provide psychological care, healing and guiding women back to Islamic virtues” as a substitute of reporting and convicting them for violations of the costume code.

The information of the re-education clinic causes a lack of know-how in Iran. “This is a joke,” commented the information portal “Khabar-Online”. On social media, some ladies expressed amusement and spoke of an act of desperation by the Islamic management. Even the federal government of President Massoud Peseschkian distanced itself from the plan on Wednesday and emphasised that it had nothing to do with the matter.

More and extra ladies are ignoring the costume code

Since the start of the ladies’s motion in September 2022, increasingly more ladies have been ignoring the Islamic costume code and likewise forgoing the necessary headband in public. Even the strict and typically violent controls of the ethical watchdog couldn’t cease the event.

The ladies’s protests had been triggered by the demise of the younger Iranian Kurdish lady Mahsa Amini. Because just a few strands of hair had been seen below her headband, she was arrested by the ethical police. She later died in police custody.
