Heidi Alexander appointed new transport secretary after Louise Haigh resigns | EUROtoday
Heidi Alexander has been appointed the federal government’s new transport secretary following the resignation of Louise Haigh on Friday morning.
Ms Haigh grew to become the primary minister to stop Sir Keir Starmer’s authorities after admitting she was convicted for making a false report back to police over a cell phone being stolen 10 years in the past.
Ms Alexander, who has been the MP for Swindon South since July’s common election, has been handed the position after serving as a minister within the Ministry of Justice.
Previously, she served because the MP for Lewisham East from 2010 to 2018, throughout which era she served because the shadow well being secretary beneath Jeremy Corbyn’s management of the celebration.
Her predecessor’s resignation drew questions on Sir Keir’s judgement when it emerged on Thursday evening that he had appointed her to his shadow cupboard in 2020 after she had disclosed the offence to him.
An ally of Ms Haigh confirmed that as Labour chief Sir Keir knew “all the facts” round her conviction when he appointed her to his shadow cupboard. At the time, the Labour chief was described as “extremely empathetic” to Ms Haigh.
Subsequently, he promoted her 3 times within the full information of her previous crime. This included trusting her with the shadow Northern Ireland temporary, a topic near the prime minister’s coronary heart.
