Keir Starmer mocked over ‘awkward’ No 10 Christmas lights switch-on | Politics | News | EUROtoday
Sir Keir Starmer has been mocked on social media over his “toe-curlingly awkward” No 10 Christmas lights switch-on.
The Prime Minister stepped outdoors 10 Downing Street to activate the lights forward of his first Christmas in workplace.
He was joined by spouse Lady Victoria, whereas NHS employees, navy personnel and members of the police gathered.
But Sir Keir seemed to be met with silence when he urged them to participate in a countdown with him.
The PM mentioned: “Can you please join me when I say five, four, three, two, one.”
Sir Keir turned on the lights, earlier than laughing and including: “It worked. Nervous moment there but it’s all good.”
But the Prime Minister was mocked by some on social media platform X over the switch-on.
GB News presenter Patrick Christys wrote on X: “This is just toe-curlingly awkward, isn’t it?”
Fellow GB News host Emily Carver shared a robotic emoji and added: “How horribly awkward.”
Ex-BBC journalist Simon McCoy mentioned: “Awks…”
Conservative Home founder Tim Montgomerie mentioned: “Goodness gracious. Lowest ever energy countdown.”
Ed Mcguinness, who was a Tory candidate on the normal election, referred to Energy Secretary Ed Miliband and quipped: “This is what all our Christmases will be like after four years of Ed Miliband.”
Commentator Alex Armstrong added: “The charisma and energy of a drying puddle.”
