President-elect Donald Trump wouldn’t denounce the false conspiracy idea that childhood vaccines have triggered autism charges to rise, saying as an alternative that he would hearken to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the anti-vaccine advocate he needs to guide the Department of Health and Human Services.
“The autism rate is at a level that nobody ever believed possible. If you look at things that are happening, there’s something causing it,” Trump informed a reporter for Time Magazine.

Even a small drop within the charge of childhood vaccinations can result in lethal outbreaks of illness. In 2019, months after Kennedy visited Samoa along with his nonprofit group to bolster anti-vaccine misinformation, a measles outbreak killed 83 individuals. Kennedy has denied his connection to the outbreak.
The Senate nonetheless should approve Kennedy’s Cabinet nomination, which has confronted high-profile criticism, with 77 Nobel laureates this week signing a letter in opposition.
