The authorities has defended its negotiations with AstraZeneca, after the pharmaceutical big ditched a deliberate £450m funding final week, blaming a shortfall in authorities funding.

Science minister Sir Chris Bryant advised Parliament that the federal government had made a “significant offer” of help to the agency, however doing extra “simply didn’t add up for the taxpayer”.
