Ein Mann ist gegen 10.30 Uhr am Münchner Stiglmaierplatz mit einem Auto in eine größere Menschengruppe gefahren. Zum Zeitpunkt des Vorfalls fand dort eine Demonstration der Gewerkschaft Verdi mit etwa 1500 Teilnehmern statt. 

Mindestens 30 Personen wurden durch die Tat verletzt. Münchens Oberbürgermeister Dieter Reiter (SPD) sagte am Abend, acht bis neun Menschen seien sehr schwer verletzt worden. Davon schwebten mehrere noch in Lebensgefahr. Unter den Verletzten sollen auch Kinder sein.

Die Verletzten wurden größtenteils an den Standorten des Universitätsklinikums in Großhadern und der Innenstadt versorgt. Laut einem Sprecher struggle auch das Haunersche Kinderspital eingebunden. „In der Innenstadt haben wir bis zu drei Schockräume parallel betrieben“, sagte Wolfgang Böcker, Direktor der Unfallchirurgie. Auch im Münchner Rotkreuzklinikum wurden nach Angaben einer Sprecherin vier Verletzte versorgt. Weitere wurden in Notfallzentren der München Klinik in den Stadtteilen Schwabing und Bogenhausen gebracht.

Der Stiglmaierplatz liegt in der Münchner Innenstadt, im Stadtteil Maxvorstadt. Die Polizei richtete eine Zeugensammelstelle ein und rief auf X dazu auf, relevante Videos und Bilder in einem Internetportal hochzuladen. Im Löwenbräukeller befand sich zudem eine Kriseninterventionsstelle zur psychologischen Betreuung. Nach der Tatortarbeit wurde der betroffene Bereich am Abend wieder für den Verkehr freigegeben.

Die Demonstration wurde von der Polizei abgesichert. Wie diese mitteilte, näherte sich der Tatverdächtige dem Demonstrationszug in einem Mini Cooper von hinten. Er habe ein Polizeifahrzeug überholt, beschleunigt und sei daraufhin in das Ende des Zugs gefahren. Die Polizei schoss auf das Fahrzeug und konnte den Mann dann festnehmen, er wurde leicht verletzt, hat aber keine Schussverletzung. Am Freitag soll er einem Ermittlungsrichter vorgeführt werden.

Laut Polizei handelt es sich bei dem Fahrer um einen 24 Jahre alten afghanischen Asylbewerber. Nach Angaben der Polizei in der bayerischen Landeshauptstadt lägen „Anhaltspunkte für einen extremistischen Hintergrund“ vor. Die Generalstaatsanwaltschaft München übernahm die Ermittlungen. Das Verfahren führe die bei der Generalstaatsanwaltschaft angesiedelte Zentralstelle zur Bekämpfung von Extremismus und Terrorismus. Nähere Angaben zum Ermittlungsstand machte sie zunächst nicht. Bayerns Ministerpräsident Markus Söder (CSU) hatte zuvor bereits gesagt, es handle sich „mutmaßlich um einen Anschlag“.

Am Nachmittag durchsuchten Ermittler laut Informationen der Deutschen Presse-Agentur die Wohnung des Tatverdächtigen in einem Mehrfamilienhaus im Münchner Stadtteil Solln.

Söder said on Thursday evening on ZDF: “The perpetrator himself has probably been rather inconspicuous so far.” Extremist backgrounds “are not so easy to recognize at first glance,” emphasized Söder. Therefore, it must now be determined what the reason for the bad and terrible act is.

Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder announced consequences. “We react prudently with every stop, but I also tell you that our determination is growing. It is not the first case, and who knows what else is happening, ”stated Söder on the scene within the metropolis heart. Chancellor Scholz stated that the perpetrator “was punished” and “leaving the country”.

So far, there are not any proof of a connection between the crime with the safety convention, stated Herrmann at midday. The convention is scheduled to start with high worldwide politicians in Munich on Friday.
