Brussels – The European Commission has introduced the countermeasures in response to the duties of 25% of the early morning on the time by the Trump administration on the metal and aluminum. The “carefully calibrated” measures will enter into power in April, defined the group govt on Wednesday 12 March in a press launch. The shiny arm wrestling between Brussels and Washington enters a section of open comparability on the industrial facet.

“The Commission deploes the decision of the United States to impose these rates, considering them unjustified, disruptive for transatlantic trade and harmful to businesses and consumers, as they often translate into an increase in prices”, reads the European press launch. The president of the Community Executive Ursula von der Leyen provides: “The duties are taxes. They interrupt the supply chains (…) bring uncertainty to the economy ».

The community decision rests on two phases. Firstly, the Commission will drop the suspension of existing countermeasures against the United States for the choices introduced by the first Trump administration in 2018 and 2020 on 1st April. These countermeasures concern a series of US products and respond to economic damage, by eight billion euros, caused to European steel and aluminum exports.

Secondly, in response to the brand new American duties that have an effect on over 18 billion euros of exports of the European Union, the Commission has right this moment offered a package deal of recent countermeasures on US exports. These measures will come into power by mid -April, after consulting the Member States and events. The double choice arrives at a Tesissimo second within the transatlantic relationships after the return to the White House of Donald Trump.
