Jennifer Melle, 40, from Croydon, Surrey, was disciplined by Epsom and St Helier University Hospital Trust when she declined to make use of feminine pronouns for a convicted paedophile. After the incident, she was also denied overtime which has affected her income.

With her livelihood and reputation at serious risk, she says she had no choice but to file a legal claim.

She is now suing the hospital trust for harassment, discrimination and human rights breaches.

Ms Melle says: “I used to be put in danger, however I’m being handled like a legal.

“Sadly, when you put your head above the parapet and communicate in truth on these points within the NHS, the danger is that you can be knocked down, punished severely and demoted.

“The message to me through the investigation was that I ought to put up with excessive racism and deny organic actuality and my deeply held Christian beliefs for the sake of inclusivity.”

Andrea Williams, chief executive of the Christian Legal Centre, which is supporting her case said: “The NHS seems to stay captured by transgender ideology to the purpose it’s ready to again a convicted paedophile, who was clearly very disturbed and shouting racist feedback, over the Christian nurse.

“We thought we had seen it all when it comes to controversial legal cases on these issues, but what Jennifer is experiencing at the hands of this ideology is off the scale and on a whole new disturbing level.

“It’s time for Government intervention on this matter. It’s time for the Government to stop equality and diversity policies being weaponised in the NHS to punish innocent nurses just doing their job.

“We will stand with Jennifer for so long as it takes for her to obtain justice and with some other nurses who’re discriminated in opposition to on account of this harmful ideology.”
