Labour has suspended Dan Norris – the MP who ousted Jacob Rees-Mogg in final 12 months’s General Election – after being knowledgeable of his arrest. It is claimed the 65-year-old North East Somerset and Hanham MP was arrested on suspicion of rape and youngster intercourse offences.

He’s been released on conditional bail for enquiries to continue.

“This is an active and sensitive investigation, so we’d respectfully ask people not to speculate on the circumstances so our enquiries can continue unhindered.”

Mr Norris was an MP from 1997-2010 and represented the seat of Wansdyke. He has additionally been West of England Mayor since 2021 and is because of step down forward of May’s native elections.
