Tributes have been paid to 47-year-old mum-of-two Lydia La Polla after she was killed in a crash in Wrexham, with relations saying she had a “true heart of gold” and was “devoted to her family.”  The collision occurred on Monday, March 24, when a silver Mercedes, fleeing from police, collided with a Toyota automobile Ms La Polla was travelling in, simply after 9.30pm, on the junction of Belgrave Road and Percey Road.

Lydia died in hospital two days in a while Wednesday, March 26, from the accidents she sustained within the crash. Her household have since spoken out, expressing their deep devastation over her premature dying.  In a press release, they mentioned: “We are truly devastated and heartbroken following the death of Lydia. She will be missed by family, friends, neighbours, and work colleagues. Lydia had a true heart of gold and would always be there for others with her selfless acts of kindness. She was devoted to her family and friends.”

The evening of the crash, March 24, would “scar us for the rest of our lives”, the family added, who asked for privacy as they mourn.

The statement added: “We ask for privateness presently as we grieve our loss as a household.”

After the accident, emergency services rushed to the scene and Ms La Polla was taken to hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

A North Wales police spokesperson confirmed that five people have been arrested in connection with the incident, and they have since been released on bail. The investigation is ongoing, and police are still seeking one of the two men who fled the scene.

Detective Chief Superintendent Sian Beck said: “Our heartfelt condolences are with Lydia’s household, who proceed to be supported by specifically educated officers.

“We remain committed to ensuring those responsible are brought to justice and urge anybody with information who hasn’t already spoken to police to contact us.”

The crash has led to questions about the circumstances surrounding the police pursuit. On Thursday, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) confirmed it had launched an investigation into “police actions” prior to the collision.

The IOPC will investigate whether police procedures were followed and whether they contributed to the tragic outcome.

Meanwhile police are continuing its investigation into the collision, and are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has information about the events leading up to it.

While five individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident, the authorities are focusing on locating one man who fled the scene, and they are urging witnesses to come forward to aid the investigation.

Ms La Polla’s family have urged anyone with information to come forward, saying: “She was greater than a mom, a buddy, a colleague, or a neighbour. Lydia was the guts of our household, and life with out her won’t ever be the identical.”
