Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has insisted 5 native grooming gang inquiries will go forward.

Home Office minister Jess Phillips mentioned that “following feedback” the Government would undertake a “flexible approach” so a number of the £5 million introduced for inquiries might be used on different tasks linked to grooming gangs.

Ms Cooper instructed LBC: “We’re still going ahead. The framework is being drawn up at the moment.

“There’s been, sadly, plenty of, I feel, social gathering political misinformation about this.

“What we should be doing is all working together to support victims and survivors of these really vile crimes.

“What we’re additionally doing is we’re putting in stronger measures. We’re strengthening the legislation into these gangs, and we’re additionally growing police investigations, which is an important factor of all, as a result of, frankly, these perpetrators must be behind bars, and if you aren’t getting the police investigations in place, that will not occur.

“That is the best way to get people justice and to keep communities safe.”
