As a survivor of the 2018 Parkland capturing and a present pupil at Florida State University, Stephanie Horowitz recalled experiencing her second mass capturing Thursday, telling CBS News, “This is America.”

“I never thought it would happen to me the first time, and here we are, and unfortunately, this is America for you,” Horowitz instructed CBS News on Friday.

Horowitz, an FSU pupil and on-campus bowling teacher, mentioned she was within the campus’ bowling alley Thursday when her college students seemed out the window and noticed individuals operating.

Horowitz mentioned when she noticed belongings left behind and “laptops open” and “bags on the floor,” she knew what that meant.

“Unfortunately, due to my previous experience, I knew what that meant, and before I knew exactly what was going on, I just started to direct everybody into the backroom to safety until I got further information, but I had a feeling that it was an active shooter situation before I even heard,” Horowitz instructed CBS News.

A 20-year-old opened hearth Thursday at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, leaving two individuals useless and 6 injured. Police mentioned the shooter used his mom’s former service weapon within the capturing.

Horowitz, who was 15 years previous when she lived via the Parkland capturing, mentioned after that day, she had the mindset that any day might be a day of one other mass capturing.

“I kind of woke up every morning thinking that it could be my last day. I was afraid for my life every step that I took,” she mentioned.

She mentioned she’s “come a long way” after that capturing, and that she had gotten to a spot the place she felt secure.

“And here we are yet again and that was taken away from me for a second time,” she mentioned.
