Boris Johnson made a jibe at Emily Thornberry in a publish marking St George’s Day. The Tory former prime minister referred to the Labour MP infamously tweeting an image of a home decked with England flags in the course of the 2014 Rochester and Strood by-election.

The publish prompted accusations of snobbery and led to her resignation from Labour’s frontbencher. Mr Johnson wrote on X: “Happy St George’s Day! Let’s fly the England flag in defiance of Emily Thornberry and joyless wokery everywhere.”

Ms Thornberry posted the picture whereas out campaigning within the Rochester and Strood by-election.

It confirmed the semi-detached property which had a white van parked exterior and was displaying three England flags.

Alongside the image, she wrote: “Image from Rochester.”

She later posted an extra message apologising if she had brought on offence.

But she was pressured to step down from her shadow legal professional common position amid fury from then-leader Ed Miliband.

At the time, Nigel Farage, who was the chief of Ukip, mentioned she had “let Miliband’s masks slip”.

He additionally questioned what the Islington South and Finsbury MP was attempting to suggest by tweeting the image.
