Part of the M25 has been closed following a tanker fireplace, triggering six miles of visitors congestion for motorists throughout the busy morning rush hour.

Two lanes of the UK’s busiest motorway have been closed this morning, with three fireplace engines on the scene. The incident occurred on the M25 anticlockwise between Junction 8 for A217 (Reigate) and Junction 7 for M23.

Traffic monitoring web site Inrix says: “Queueing traffic for two miles and two lanes closed due to lorry fire on M25 anticlockwise from J8 A217 (Reigate) to J7 M23.

“Congestion to onlookers reverse too. Three fireplace engines are attending to a tanker in lanes one and two (of 4), after a brief maintain to place cones out.”
