The United States criticize the fines inflicted by the EU to Apple and Meta: they’re “a new form of economic extortion” and “we will not tolerate them”. This was stated by the spokesman of the Council for National Security of the White House Brian Hughes. “Extraterritorial regulations that tarnish and specifically damage American companies – observed Hughes – suffocate innovation and allow censorship will be recognized as commercial barriers and a direct threat to a free civil society”.
